Yang-L vaas door Patrice Butler

Patrice Butler is trained as an architect before turning to what he calls “jewels for the house.” He studied both at Kingston Polytechnic and at the Architectural Association, a powerhouse of the avant-garde in London in the late 1980's under Nigel Coates and Daniel Weil. His ornate chandeliers are representative of the Baroque-style decorativeness. Butler’s one-of-a-kind designs range from chandeliers -- in crystal, glass beads, semiprecious stones or metal -- to elaborate pendants and torchiers. ''I want my work to evolve from historical pieces without being postmodern pastiche,'' he said. Industrial Baroque was one of the phrases coined by the press to describe the startling and at times brash juxtaposition of the modern world with the past.
